Key Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Assist in the management of the collection, storage, management, maintenance,and delivery of petabyte-scale spatial imagery (satellite, piloted aerial, drone, ground-based) and elevation (including LiDAR) data ensuring adherence to the relevant policies, standards, and legislation.
  • Assist in managing the development, delivery, and documentation of spatial web services providing access to the Department's spatial data.
  • Create innovative solutions and efficient processes to improve spatial information data management and the delivery of associated products and services.
  • Assist in the development of strategies for the management and supply of the department's spatial datasets through a cloud environment.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current and emerging technologies and standards associated with spatial information management and delivery.
  • Work independently and/or within a team environment by interacting with staff on a project basis to ensure that objectives are completed in a timely, appropriate, and effective manner.
  • Collaborate with all tiers of government, industry, and academia to ensure the Department's data meets stakeholder requirements.
  • Provide technical advice, verbal and written reports to the Department and stakeholders in the field of spatial information associated with mapping and surveying, geographic information systems (GIS), and associated products and services.
  • Other duties as directed and required.
What you will need:
  • A Degree qualification in the field of Spatial Sciences, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing/Earth Observation, Information Technology, Data Science, or an agreed equivalent as determined by the Director General
  • While not mandatory, it is highly desirable for the applicant to have experience delivering web services using ArcGIS Enterprise and/or ArcGIS Online
  • While not mandatory, it is highly desirable for the applicant to have an interest in developing skills to manage and visualise large and varied datasets:
o Programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Structured Query Language (SQL))
o Configuration of cloud compute and storage infrastructure resources (AWS, Microsoft Azure)
o Spatial data (raster, vector) and metadata management
o Technical writing or technical communication
